You can enjoy a beer, glass of wine or a 1.5 oz. shot of rum, tequila, vodka or whiskey for about the same impact to your waistline. When you make a mixed drink with hard alcohol, however, you will up your calorie count.

Light beer has about 110 calories in a 12-oz. serving, compared to about 149 calories in regular 12-oz. beer, according to the College Drinking Prevention website. Wine has 100 calories in a 5-oz. glass and dry white wine contains about 94 in a 5-oz. glass. Drink 80-proof alcohol and you'll consume about 65 calories per 1-oz. shot. Consuming liqueurs like triple sec or coffee liqueur is more calorie-costly, with a shot adding about 126 calories per ounce to your daily total.
Features
Hard alcohol that is 40-percent alcohol by volume translates to an 80 proof. In contrast, beer is 3 to 8 percent alcohol and wine 12 to 14 percent.
Types
Some types of wine have more calories than the basic reds and whites, such as sweet wines like sherry and port. Just 2 oz. sherry has 75 calories, and 2 oz. port has 90 calories. Champagne, however, is comparable to red wine as far as calories go.
Considerations
Mixed drinks up your calorie count --- unless you use a no-calorie mixer like diet soda. Margaritas have 168 calories in a 4-oz. drink, for example. A same-size daiquiri has 122 calories.
