One cheese enchilada is not high in calories, but if you eat more than one or pair it with typical Mexican side dishes, the calories quickly build up. Cheese enchiladas are also high in fat.

A cheese enchilada contains 340 calories, according to the Daily Burn website. One enchilada has 21 g of fat, 12 g of which are saturated fats. One serving also contains 65 mg of cholesterol, 570 mg of sodium and 17 g of protein. It contains 23 g of carbohydrate, 3 g of which are fiber.

Comparison

The Center for Science in the Public Interest suggests choosing chicken fajitas with no beans, sour cream or guacamole when dining at a Mexican restaurant. Unlike the cheese enchilada, the chicken fajitas will provide you with a serving of vegetables. The chicken enchilada may also be a better choice, coming in at 230 calories.

Tips

The Center for Science in the Public Interest recommends holding the side dishes that typically come with Mexican dishes, such as rice and beans, sour cream and guacamole. Avoid digging into the nachos that are typically served as an appetizer. Skip the margarita in favor of water.
