How Many Calories an Hour Are Burned While Bike Riding?

Bike riding is an aerobic exercise that is used to lose weight and strengthen your lower body. The speed at which you ride your bike, your weight and the amount of weight you carry influences the number of calories you burn.

Average Calorie Burn

A 155-lb. person burns approximately 560 calories an hour riding her bike 12 to 14 miles per hour. If she rides faster, the calorie burn will increase. If she rides slower, it will decrease.

Weight

The heavier a person is, the more calories she burns doing any activity. This is also true for added weights. The more weight you carry during a bike ride, the more calories you burn. The heavier weight also increases the chance for injury.

Incline

The steeper the incline of a bike trail, the harder it is to ride. This results in more calories burned.
