Homemade turkey soup is one way to use roasted turkey leftovers. Vegetables, pasta and potatoes can be thrown into the mix -- and each has an effect on the amount of calories in the soup.

Calories

A recipe containing 1.5 cups of turkey, 2 cups of half-and-half, 32 oz. chicken broth, 1/2 cup of wild rice and margarine, 8 slices of bacon, flour and seasonings contains 433 calories per serving, according to Allrecipes.com. Another one of their recipes skips the bacon, half-and-half and margarine and adds more vegetables such as carrots, celery, onions and peas -- as well as leftover stuffing. This recipe contains 373 calories per serving.

Considerations

The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute has a turkey soup recipe that contains only 226 calories. The recipe contains turkey breast, onions, celery, lots of herbs and spices and a little pasta. Smaller servings, less added fat like bacon, cream, margarine and stuffing means less calories in your soup.

Misconceptions

Remember that not all turkey meat contains the same amount of calories. These recipes might assume that white turkey breast meat is used, rather than the higher-calorie dark meat in drumsticks. The type of turkey meat used will have an impact of the calories in your homemade turkey soup.
