NordicTrack produces a line of elliptical devices designed to provide a cardiovascular workout to the home user. The device works by allowing the operator to mimic movements used when running or walking; swing arms mounted on the upper portion of the elliptical serve to exercise the upper body as well. Regular use may wear away the lubricant at certain points on the elliptical, or may cause the drive belt to break or lose tension over time.
Drive Belt
Step 1
Remove the button screws securing the rear ends of the pedal legs to the cranks on each side of the base unit. Pull the ends of the legs off of the cranks; allow the legs to rest on the ground.
Step 2
Remove the screws installed in the center of the disc on the left side of the base unit. Insert the tip of a flathead screwdriver or pry tool underneath the edge of the disc. Pry a portion of the disc free of the base unit, then reposition the screwdriver or pry tool and repeat; continue in this manner until the disc comes free of the base.
Step 3
Inspect the interior of the base unit and locate the drive belt. Examine the left side of the drive belt, and locate the idler and idler pulley. Loosen the three screws installed underneath the idler.
Step 4
Pull the drive belt free of the idler, idler pulley and crank pulley. Inspect the drive belt for signs of wear; if necessary, discard the belt in favor of a replacement. Fit the drive belt back onto the idler, idler pulley and crank pulley.
Step 5
Insert the screwdriver between the idler and idler pulley. Push the upper end of the screwdriver towards the front of the elliptical until the drive belt reaches the desired tension level. Tighten the three screws installed underneath the idler.
Step 6
Reinstall the disc on the left side of the base unit. Push the edges of the disc into the base unit until the component feels secure. Reinstall the screws in the center of the disc. Reconnect the ends of the pedal legs to the cranks; reinstall the screws that secure the ends of the legs to the cranks.
Lubrication
Step 1
Remove the button screws securing the rear ends of the pedal legs to the cranks on each side of the base unit. Pull the ends of the legs off of the cranks.
Step 2
Wipe the cranks clean with a dry towel. Apply a fresh coating of machine grease to the surface of each crank. Reconnect the pedal legs to the cranks.
Step 3
Remove the screws or bolts securing the front ends of the pedal legs to the upper-body arms. Detach the pedal legs from the arms. Wipe the axles on the arms clean and apply a fresh coating of machine grease. Reconnect the pedal legs to the arms.
Step 4
Remove the screws or bolts securing the upper-body arms to the upright assembly. Detach the arms from the upright. Wipe the upright's axle clean and apply a fresh coating of machine grease. Reconnect the upper-body arms to the upright.
