Huffy Sports is a subsidiary company of the Russell Corp. and is one of the top-selling basketball equipment companies in the U.S. Apart from various accessories, the company sells in-ground, portable and wall-mounted basketball hoop systems. In-ground systems provide the most stability and take up less space than portable systems but require careful planning during the installation process.

Step 1

Place a line of masking tape on the top end of the pole's bottom and middle sections. The tape should be 5 1/2 inches from the edge of the section. Ensure that the ground is level with the playing surface and dig a hole that's 30 inches back from the playing surface. The hole must be 24 inches in diameter and 24 inches deep.

Step 2

Clamp the ground sleeve around the base of the bottom pole section. Mix the concrete and fill the hole three-quarters full. Tamp down the concrete with the back of the shovel. Insert the pole and ground sleeve into the concrete and fill the hole the rest of the way with concrete. The ground sleeve should be 1 inch above the top of the concrete.

Step 3

Place a carpenter's level on all sides of the pole to ensure it is perfectly straight as the concrete cures. Wait 24 hours for the concrete to set. Periodically check the pole again to ensure it remains level.

Step 4

Unclamp the ground sleeve from the bottom section of pole the next day and remove the pole from the ground. Turn the top section of pole upside down and place it vertically on a piece of scrap wood lying on the ground. Insert the middle section and bounce the two together until the pieces are fully joined. Repeat the process to add the bottom section to the middle and top sections.

Step 5

Place a rebar clip 2 inches from the top and 3 inches from the bottom of the rebar section. Drill a hole on the back side of a pole in the center of each pole joint. Place a screw in both holes. Insert the rebar section into the bottom pole piece and place the end cap on the bottom. Fill the pole with concrete until it is approximately 1 or 2 inches from the lowest hole in the top pole section. Wait 24 hours for the concrete to set.

Step 6

Insert the pole in the ground sleeve and clamp it in place. Bolt the jack support plates and elevator tube arms to the top of the pole so the tubes extend toward the playing court. Bolt the screw jack to the support plates, then attach the upper elevator tubes to the pole and screw jack.

Step 7

Secure the backboard brackets to the H-frame, then bolt the H-frame to the elevator tubes. Have an assistant hold the backboard in place, then screw it to the top bar of the H-frame.

Step 8

Insert the carriage bolts and springs into the rim bracket. Bolt the rim to the rim bracket through the top holes in the bracket and tighten completely. Attach the rim to the backboard. Place a level on the rim and adjust the nut on each spring until the rim is level.

Step 9

Install the net on the rim. Turn the bolt on the bottom of the screw jack until the rim is 10 feet above the playing surface.
