Weight loss isn't easy. You need to find ways of reducing your caloric intake or increasing your daily activities if you hope to lose weight. For some people, just the thought of this can be daunting and may lead them to turn to alternative methods of weight loss. One potential option is the apple cider vinegar diet.
Apple Cider Vinegar
The main component to this diet is apple cider vinegar. You start off by taking a tsp. of apple cider vinegar about 15 minutes before breakfast, lunch and dinner. As you adjust to the taste, increase this amount until you're taking a total of 3 tsp. before every meal.
Diet
Unlike other weight-loss plans, the apple cider vinegar diet doesn't require any dietary modifications. You can eat whatever you want as long as it's done in moderation, advises Diet in Review. By reducing portion sizes and skipping snacks, you're cutting your caloric intake, which can help generate a caloric deficit needed to shed those excess pounds. Just continue to eat three well-balanced meals a day.
Effects
Taking apple cider vinegar before meals is believed by proponents to decrease a person's appetite, explains Katherine Zeratsky, a nutritionist with MayoClinic.com. The decrease in appetite prevents overeating, which may better support cutting calories from your diet and promote weight loss. It's also thought to increase the amount of fat your body burns, providing even better results.
Evidence
While eating in moderation and skipping snacks can help reduce caloric intake enough to encourage weight loss, very little scientific evidence exists to support the claim that apple cider vinegar suppresses appetite or burns fat, Zeratsky warns. Any positive results are likely from the caloric restriction from smaller portion sizes and not eating between meals.
Caution
Due to its acidic nature, taking apple cider vinegar each day may irritate the throat and even the gastrointestinal tract. Supplements containing this ingredient may adversely interact with prescription medications. Always talk to your doctor before making any changes in your diet, including the use of apple cider vinegar to lose weight.
