Impex Fitness, Inc. is a wholesaler of economically priced fitness equipment and is based in City of Industry, Califonia. The company was formed in 1982 and has annual revenues between $20 and $50 million. The company sells exercise equipment under the Marcy, Apex, Hers, Competitor, Monster and Iron Grip Strength brand names.

Types

Impex Fitness exercise equipment covers a wide array of areas, ranging from strength training to cardiovascular equipment. Marcy and Competitor weight benches are designed for use with free weights. There are also multi-station home gyms that utilize weight plates. The company sells exercise bikes, treadmills, elliptical machines, dumbbells, kettlebells and various fitness accessories.

Features

Impex home fitness equipment has many features that are comparable to more-expensive equipment from recognizable name brands. Many of the Marcy weight benches come with a leg developer, curl and lat pull down station so you can achieve a total-body workout. Cardio equipment such as the elliptical machines and treadmills come with digital display consoles that provide workout feedback and adjustable resistance settings.

Retailers

Third-party retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kmart, Sears, Target and The Sports Authority sell Impex exercise equipment. It can also be found at online retailers such as Amazon and QVC. Because the equipment is so widely available, prices can greatly vary between retailers. However, much of the equipment is sold for a few hundred dollars or less, making it significantly cheaper than many competitor brands.

Considerations

According to certified personal trainer Brett Spottke on his Exercise Equipment Expert website, Impex's leading brand of fitness equipment, Marcy, is lacking in features and ergonomics. Spottke states that cardio equipment like the Marcy recumbent bike is uncomfortable to use. He also notes that weight-training equipment like the company's Smith machine lacks adjustability common in higher-priced models.

Potential

Impex fitness equipment is largely marketed toward you if you are new to exercising or do not exercise regularly. Lower-quality resistance systems in the cardio equipment and bearings in the strength-training machines make exercising jerky on Impex systems. However, if you want to save money and do not mind having fewer features on your workout equipment, Impex machines do provide you with the same motions as more-expensive equipment.
