Foods That Are Low Calorie But Are Filling

When you are trying to lose weight by consuming low-calorie foods, you may face setbacks if you are unable to feel full after eating. Instead, look for low-calorie items that can help suppress your appetite between meals and make you feel full. Many people snack on sweets and chips to stave off cravings, but you should avoid these items if you are trying to lose weight.

Whole Grains

Whole grains are a nutritious part of your diet and can help fill you up between meals. Whole grain and low-calorie foods you can enjoy include whole grain breads, fortified cereals, brown rice and wheat pasta. Popcorn without added butter can also fill you up and you can enjoy it as a low-calorie snack.

Fat-Free Dairy

Dairy items, like milk and cheese can be extremely filling. Instead of full-fat versions, opt for low-fat and fat-free types. Try a filling, fat-free or low-fat yogurt in your favorite flavor as a low-calorie, filling snack.

Vegetables

Vegetables can be filling and are low in calories. Prepare them without added butter or saturated oils to keep them low calorie. Spinach, broccoli, tomato and carrots are especially good at suppressing your appetite.

Fruits

Fruit is a good choice for snacks and can hold you off between meals. Certain fruits are more effective at filling you up. These include watermelon, strawberries, cranberries, blueberries and apples.

Legumes

Beans can suppress your appetite without adding in too many extra calories. You can eat any type of bean, as long as you don't add extra fat. Enjoy black beans, pinto beans or kidney beans. Peas are also low calorie, and can help fill you up when you have them with your meal.
