When you wrap your wrists, you are using the bandage as a way to support and compress the area. Wrapping can help stabilize the wrist to prevent injury as well as a course of treatment when you have suffered a sprain. If you have a wrist injury, speak to your doctor about using wraps to treat the condition. It's a simple task to wrap your wrist with an elastic bandage.
Step 1
Purchase a bandage that you can use to wrap your wrist. You can buy medical bandages at a pharmacy. Use a 2-inch bandage for wrapping your wrists.
Step 2
Start the bandage at the base of your hand. Use the thumb of your other hand to hold the end in place.
Step 3
Wrap the bandage around the wrist to make two complete rotations. As you start to wrap, you can remove your thumb.
Step 4
Move the bandage across the palm of your hand and take it between your thumb and forefinger. Then make another rotation around your wrist.
Step 5
Repeat the process of wrapping the bandage between the thumb and forefinger. Use the slack to make several more rotations around the wrist. As you wrap, overlap three-quarters of the bandage's width.
Step 6
Secure the wrist bandage. Use a locking tab to keep the wrist wrap in place. These tabs are typically included in the bandage's packaging. If you are doing both wrists, repeat the process for your other wrist.
Tips and Warnings
- Most wraps can be machine washed and reused.
- Don't wrap your wrist too tightly. This could cut off your circulation and lead to another medical problem.
