It assists with vision, growth, development, hair and skin maintenance and development, proper immune function, mucous membrane operation and reproduction. Vitamin A can be found in vegetables and some dairy products.

B Vitamins

One-a-Day pills contain a number of B vitamins. B vitamins are commonly used in combination with each other. According to the Mayo Clinic, vitamin B6 helps to synthesize neurotransmitters in the brain, which allows the effective release of chemicals in the brain, specifically serotonin and norepinephrine. Vitamin C performs many functions, including muscle and cartilage formation. This essential nutrient has been suggested as an aid to the common cold, though the evidence is controversial. A lack of vitamin C can cause scurvy, which may result in death. The USDA warns that many Americans have difficulty obtaining adequate amounts of Vitamin C through diet alone.

Vitamin D

The cells in the human body can convert ultraviolet-B rays produced by the sun into vitamin D. Vitamin D is also found in foods, such as dairy products, fish, and eggs but many diets fall short of the recommended daily allowance of 400 international units (IU). Vitamin D helps keep blood levels of calcium and phosphorous within normal limits. It also works alongside calcium to strengthen teeth and bones.
