Body mass index (BMI) is an estimate of body fat, based on height and weight. It is used to determine whether you are underweight, normal in weight, overweight or obese. A BMI score of 20 to 25 is healthy, while a BMI score of 40 or higher qualifies as morbidly obese. The same BMI calculations apply to both men and women, but it does not apply to children. It's easy to calculate your BMI.
Step 1
Step on a weight scale and read your weight in pounds.
Step 2
Stand up straight and measure your height in inches with a measuring tape.
Step 3
Punch in your weight into the calculator and multiply it by 703.
Step 4
Clear the calculator screen and multiply your height by the same number (your height). For example, if you weigh 150 lbs., multiply 150 by 150.
Step 5
Divide the number from Step 3 by the number obtained in step 4. You have calculated your body mass index.
