New Jersey has 130 miles of coastline that welcome you to relax, picnic, surf, boogie board, play volleyball, kayak, wind surf and sail. The high concentration of beaches in New Jersey present you with a variety of options to have a desired beach experience. Some beach communities in New Jersey have quiet beaches for you to rest or read a book, while others have boardwalks with rides, games and shows.

Monmouth County

The northernmost county of the Jersey Shore is Monmouth County, which is heavily visited because of its location near New York City. Sandy Hook Beach is a Monmouth County destination where you can see the oldest lighthouse in the United States and views of the Manhattan skyline. Asbury Park is another noteworthy beach community in Monmouth County, which offers you clean beaches and a boardwalk.

Ocean County

Beaches in Ocean County are generally less crowded than Monmouth County to the north, whether you are vacationing or taking a day trip. Point Pleasant Beach is a family-friendly destination in Ocean City, with a boardwalk that offers miniature golf, arcades and rides. Long Beach is a family-oriented beach community with a relaxed vibe. Seaside Heights has a boardwalk and the Funtown Pier, with several rides for all ages that range from a Ferris wheel to roller coasters.

Atlantic County

Located south of Ocean County, Atlantic County is where New Jersey gained a worldwide reputation for gambling, boardwalks and amusement park entertainment. Atlantic City provides you with a combination of beaches, casinos and the boardwalk, which includes amusement piers and the Atlantic City Aquarium. If you travel south of Atlantic City, Margate City is a beach community that has Lucy the Elephant for a tourist attraction. Lucy is a six-story tall building that you can walk inside, which is built in the shape of an elephant.

Cape May County

The southernmost county in New Jersey is Cape May County, where you can enjoy beaches, boardwalks and lighthouses. Cape May County is home to The Wildwoods, which has a two-mile boardwalk with games and amusement rides for you to explore. Ocean City has a two-and-a-half-mile boardwalk that offers such attractions as a water park, bike rentals, mini-golf, go-carts and two amusement parks. If you want to relax, Cape May Point State Park has hiking trails, a protected beach area and the 157-foot-tall Cape May Lighthouse.

Considerations

Each beach area in New Jersey presents you with the opportunity to get fresh air and exercise. Bergen, Hudson, Union and Middlesex are four smaller counties that run along the Hudson River and into the Atlantic Ocean in northern New Jersey. These heavily populated counties offer you such beaches as Cliffwood Beach, Bloomer Beach, Hazard Beach, Undercliff Beach and Huylers Beach.
