The Healthy Curb diet supplement contains only food and food extracts, with no stimulants or herbs. It was developed by medical doctor Steven Rosenblatt, former director of complementary medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and author of the 2003 book "The Starch Blocker Diet." Nearly everyone loses weight within 14 days when taking this supplement, according to the official website. Consult a qualified health care provider before taking weight loss supplements or beginning any weight loss program.

Function

Healthy Curb contains ingredients that curb your appetite, and one component in particular that blocks the conversion of starch to sugar, as noted by the official website. It does not contain animal by-products, artificial coloring or flavoring, dairy products, digestible plastics, salt, starch or sugar. Healthy Curb is purported to keep blood sugar levels steady and to eliminate carbohydrate and sugar addictions. The supplement is also claimed to improve digestion and nutrient absorption.

NT Factor and Growth Media

Two main ingredients of Healthy Curb are NT Factor and growth media. NT Factor is a proprietary nutrient complex composed of food and food components, including phosphoglycolipids such as phosphatidylcholine, and freeze-dried and microencapsulated bifido and lactobacillus bacteria to form friendly microflora. Bacteria growth media support these new microflora colonies, explains the official website. Some of these substances include arginine, beet root fiber, black strap molasses, garlic, para-amino benzoate, rice bran extract, spirulina, taurine, B vitamins, vitamin E and various minerals.

Carbohydrate Blocking

The ingredient that blocks some absorption of carbohydrate calories is Phaseolus vulgaris, an extract derived from white kidney beans. The extract is purported to stop starches from breaking down into sugars, so they are eliminated from the body, explains Diets in Review.com. A study published online on January 24, 2007, in the "International Journal of Medical Sciences," with lead author Leonardo Celleno, evaluated the effects of a Phaseolus vulgaris extract on body composition. After 30 days, participants taking Phaseolus vulgaris extract while eating a carbohydrate-rich diet experienced significantly greater decreases in weight, body mass index, fat mass, fat tissue thickness, and waist, hip and thigh circumferences as compared with participants eating the same diet and taking a placebo.

Healthy Curb Research

A study published in 2009 in the "Journal of IiME," with lead author Garth L. Nicholson, investigated the effects of Healthy Curb on chronic fatigue patients. The journal is a publication of the charity organization Invest in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. The 30 participants lost an average of 3 lbs. over two months while taking Healthy Curb, without changing their eating or exercise habits. The authors noted a significant appetite suppressant effect with a 44 percent reduction in overall hunger and decreased cravings for sweets.

Usage

The recommended dosage is two tablets 30 to 60 minutes before each meal, but you also may take Healthy Curb during or after a meal. Take another dose between meals to prevent snacking, recommends the official website. Drink a full glass of water to allow maximum absorption. According to the product manufacturers, you'll feel an appetite suppressant effect from the first day. You are supposed to take the supplement for as long a time frame as needed to achieve your weight loss goals. You can enhance the benefits of this supplement by eating a healthy diet and participating in regular exercise, advises the official website. While Healthy Curb prevents loss of muscle mass during weight loss, exercise can increase lean body mass as well. A regular exercise routine may cause improvements in waist and hip measurements even without any weight loss.
