Sculpting your body is more than just building muscle. It's more about improving the tone and fitness of your entire body. When done right, body sculpting workouts will reduce fat, increase muscle and improve your health. A combination of cardiovascular and resistance training is best, with exercises that target every major muscle group in the body. Of course, you should maintain a healthy diet while performing sculpting body workouts for the best results.
Step 1
Warm up your muscles before working out, suggests MayoClinic.com. Go for a walk on a treadmill for about 10 minutes. Stretch your muscles gently to increase flexibility before your workout. Don't stretch too hard, however, as stretching on cold muscles could result in an injury.
Step 2
Perform exercises that target the major muscle groups first. For instance, to work out your back, do dumbbell rows on each arm, suggests the American Council on Exercise. Dumbbell flies, lateral raises and front raises also work for the chest and shoulders. Perform three sets of 10 of each exercise to tone and sculpt your upper body.
Step 3
Workout the smaller muscles of your upper body, by focusing on your arms. Use your dumbbells to do bicep curls and extensions. These exercises will tone your biceps and triceps, respectively. Tighten your muscles when lifting the dumbbell for added benefit. Perform three sets of 10 of each exercise.
Step 4
Tone your lower body by increasing the number of repetitions you perform per set. Do three sets of 15 squats and leg lifts to tone your thighs, buttocks and abs. Jump on an elliptical for 10 minutes to get your heart rate up and work your legs. Perform crunches and bicycles for your abs as well. Try starting with two sets of 15 and work your way up to three sets of 25.
