Juice diets involve drinking fruit and vegetable juices throughout the day. The Diets in Review website says you should not be on a juice diet for more than five days. A juice diet can be used to raise your metabolism for a longer-term diet program.

Background

When juice dieting, other foods will be eliminated from your diet with juice as a substitute. Choose juices that are prepared fresh if you can. You'll need to drink lots of water during fasting. The main goal of juice diets is to help the body flush harmful toxins.

Quantities

The Juicing-For-Health website suggests consuming about 10 ounces of juice for each of the three main meals. You may be using the restroom quite regularly due to the large fluid consumption, but this is part of the toxin expulsion process. In between the main meals, drink water as well as juice. The water should be pure and room temperature.

Types of Juice

Try to drink fresh fruit juice as much as possible. Many juices sold in cans possess lots of preservatives and detrimental sugars. Healthy fruits for juice fasting include oranges, grapefruits and grapes. If you want to drink vegetable juice as well, try cucumber, celery and garlic. You can also try vegetable broths that contain tomatoes, green peppers and cabbage.

Nutritional Value

Certain fruits and vegetables offer many health benefits when made into juice. Apples provide vitamins A, B and C along with potassium and calcium. Apricots provide the same three vitamins as apples plus vitamin K and phosphorus. Beets possess calcium, iron and vitamin C. They may change the color of your stool and urine. Broccoli is rich in potassium, vitamin B1 and calcium (see Reference 4).

Waring

The Diets in Review website explains that you may experience a lack of energy when juice fasting. If you are experiencing major health problems or are malnourished, do not adopt an all-juice diet. Speak with a medical doctor before beginning a juice diet.
