Optimum Nutrition's Serious Mass protein powder is used primarily as a weight-gain supplement. It can, potentially, aid people who are active or who have fast metabolisms in gaining lean muscle mass. Serious Mass is marketed as a nutritional supplement; as with any supplement, you should read and understand the nutrition facts before consuming it.

Calories and Macronutrients

According to the Optimum Nutrition website, Serious Mass contains approximately 1250 calories per serving. A serving is considered to be 334g, or two heaping scoops using the scoop provided in the container. One serving can provide your body with 50g of protein, 252g of carbohydrates and 4.5g of fat.

Vitamins

Serious Mass harbors multiple vitamins, including vitamin A, with 5000 I.U. or 100 percent of the daily value; vitamin C, with 60mg or 100 percent DV; vitamin D, with 200 I.U. or 50 percent DV; vitamin E, with 30 I.U. or 100 percent DV; thiamin, with 4.8 mg or 320 percent DV; riboflavin, with 4 mg or 235 percent DV, niacin, with 50 mg or 250 percent DV; vitamin B6, with 5 mg or 250 percent DV; folic acid, with 400 mcg or 100 percent DV, vitamin B12, with 10 mcg or 167 percent DV; biotin, with 300 mcg or 100 percent DV; and pantothenic acid, with 25 mg or 250 percent DV.

Minerals

Serious Mass can also provide your body with many essential minerals, including calcium, with 590 mg or 59 percent DV; iron, with 8 mg or 44 percent DV; phosphorus, with 430 mg or 43 percent DV; Iodine, with 150 mcg or 100 percent DV; magnesium, with 140 mg or 35 percent DV; zinc, with 15 mg or 100 percent DV; selenium, with 70 mcg or 100 percent DV; copper, 1.6 mg or 80 percent DV; manganese, with 2 mg or 100 percent DV; chromium, with 120 mcg or 100 percent DV; molybdenum, with 75 mcg or 100 percent DV; sodium, with 410 mg or 17 percent DV; and potassium, with 1560 mg or 45 percent DV.

Amino Acids

This supplement contains two kinds of amino acids; L-glutamine and creatine. L-glutamine is a necessary amino acid for the synthesis of protein. In one serving of this product, there are 500 mg of L-glutamine, but a daily value has not been determined. Creatine is necessary for your muscles to contract and to produce energy. Although there is no daily value determined, one serving of this product contains 1 g of creatine.
