Vitamaster exercise equipment is no longer manufactured. The line of treadmills and exercise bikes by Roadmaster Industries was discontinued in the 1990s. The Vitamaster 990 Plus exercise bike provides basic functions, but does not offer any advanced features. The most common method for increasing the intensity of your workout on an exercise bike is to increase the pedal resistance. However, the Vitamaster 990 does not have any resistance options. The bike does have a basic console that displays distance and approximate calories burned.
Step 1
Insert batteries into the console. The console on the Vitamaster 990 plus is battery powered. Remove the battery cover from the back of the console and insert two "AA" batteries.
Step 2
Adjust the seat. For a safe and comfortable workout, you want the seat to be positioned so that your extended leg is still slightly bent when you are pedaling. If you are too close to the pedals, you will feel cramped. If you are too far away, your knees will lock out when pedaling, causing excessive stress to the joint. Pull out the adjustment pin located under the right side of the seat. Slide the seat up or down as needed. Reinsert the pin.
Step 3
Position yourself in the seat and place your feet on the pedals. Start pedaling at a comfortable pace. Complete a five-minute warm-up consisting of an easy, relaxed motion.
Step 4
Complete your workout. If you are a beginner, start with a 15- or 20-minute workout. Gradually increase your workout time to 30 or 40 minutes. You can ramp up the intensity of the workout somewhat by pedaling faster.
Step 5
Do a five-minute cool-down consisting of a slow, comfortable pace similar to the warm-up. This gives your heart rate time to slow before you get off the bike.
Tips and Warnings
