Detoxifying the body is like removing corrosion from battery cables or "de-gunking" your car engine. A quick sea salt detox helps your body run more efficiently, so you'll gain energy and a feeling of satisfaction when you can work or play longer and better.

Detoxification will help your body fully eliminate deposits of lead, mercury and other heavy metals and unsavory chemicals. We ingest toxins every day through air, water, and food additives and preservatives, which the lymphatic, respiratory and digestive systems may not fully expel. A saltwater cleanse by nose, mouth or immersion in a bath is part of a healthy lifestyle.

Full Body

Salt works to draw toxins out of the body by osmosis. A sea salt detox bath, high in minerals, reinfuses the body with magnesium, calcium and potassium chlorides through the skin. For two baths, mix four cups of sea salt (or use half Epsom salt) and a teaspoon of corn starch or baking soda.

Unrefined sea salt, found in health food stores, will bring the biggest mineral benefits. You can also buy prepared detoxifying baths, such as those made with mineral-rich Dead Sea salts and essential oils. Dissolve up to 2 cups in a regular tub of hot water and soak. This saltwater cleanse is a quick step to a healthy lifestyle.

Oral

Drinking a solution of sea salt in water for 7 days in a row leaves the bowels purged and ready to function regularly. This sea salt detox optimizes the body's ability to store vital nutrients and excrete waste.

A periodic saltwater cleanse for the colon is part of a healthy lifestyle and recommended in natural health care before beginning a new regimen of dietary supplements. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of natural sea salt in 2 quarts of boiling water. You can add the juice of a lemon or lime to distract your taste buds, if necessary. Let it cool to tea-drinking temperature, and then drink until it is gone.

Nasal

Nasal cleansing, or nasal irrigation, is a sea salt detox that has been medically proven to relieve certain chronic respiratory conditions. A nasal saltwater cleanse removes toxins, clears airways and relieves asthmatics and those who suffer from chronic rhinitis and nasal polyps. Warm saltwater is poured from a specially shaped cup, called a neti pot, into the nasal passages.

To do this, boil a quart of water and stir in 1 to 2 teaspoons of water until dissolved. When cool enough, breathe through your mouth, tilt your head, and poor the mixture in one nostril, letting it run out the other nostril. Do not inhale. Then blow your nose and repeat the process on the other side.
