Overview

There are four blood types in the world---O, A, B and AB---and every person on Earth has one of them. According to Dr. Peter DÁdamo, author of "Eat Right for Your Type" and naturopathic physician, every blood type originates during a certain period of time in history. He suggests that each blood type is therefore designed to eat specific foods and may have difficulty digestive certain foods as well, which can lead to weight gain and illness.

Step 1

Eat correctly for blood type O. The O blood type is known as the oldest blood type on Earth, originating from the hunter-gatherer societies, who existed on a diet high in proteins and fruits, and did not eat many if any breads, grains or garden vegetables. Proteins sources best suited to a type O blood type include fish, wild game, nuts and seeds. Fruits that are beneficial are berries, stone fruits and seeded fruits, such as apples or pears. Foods that should be avoided include all breads and most grains, because they are not easily digested and can cause weight gain in type O people.

Step 2

Eat correctly for blood type A. Type A blood originated during the period in time that saw the beginnings of cultivation and the domestication of animals for milking. People started making breads and raising their own foods stores instead of gathering them in the forests. People with type A blood are best suited to eating whole grains, such as oats and millet, whole grain breads, garden vegetables and dairy products. Type A blood types should avoid eating large amounts of meat, such as beef, pork, poultry or fish.

Step 3

Eat correctly for blood type B. Those with type B blood can consume a wide variety of foods and are thought to be a combination of both type O and type A blood types. Type B blood types should consume meats, fruits, vegetables and grains in moderation but should avoid certain specific foods that cause weight gain and interact poorly in the system, such as corn and lentils.

Step 4

Eat correctly for blood type AB. Type AB blood is a very new, less understood blood type and under a thousand years old. People with type AB blood seem to be more prone to allergies and should avoid certain trigger foods that can lead to weight gain, such as meat, corn and sesame. AB blood types are best suited to eating vegetables and wheat products, such as breads and pastas.
