Gymnastics for Youth
The Indian Boundary YMCA in Downer's Grove, 25 minutes from Oak Park, offers a variety of gymnastics classes for toddlers and preschoolers. Children ages 2 to 4 can join the Littlest Leapers, which introduces them to tumbling exercises. Goals of Littlest Leapers include developing flexibility, strength, body awareness and coordination. Little Leapers, geared to children ages 3 to 5, begins teaching basic gymnastic moves and introduces children to basic gymnastic equipment. The Rollers class, for children ages 5 and 6, builds technical skills, while the Swingers gymnastics class, for elementary-aged children, builds on the Rollers' introductory skills. Toddlers Through First-Grade
Twenty minutes from Oak Park, the Greater LaGrange YMCA offers gymnastics classes for children from 18 months through 6 years of age. The LaGrange YMCA's Little Tots Gymnastics offers beginning gymnastics for children from 18 months through 3 years, including forward and backward rolls and balancing on the balance beam. Parents participate in the Little Tots Gymnastic program together with their children. The Little Gymnasts program, open to children ages 3 through 6 years old, includes tumbling, balancing, rolling and bending activities. Children participate in Little Tots without their parents.
Oak Park IL YMCA
The Oak Park YMCA offers a wide variety of sports programs for kids. Young children and teens may join YMCA classes in youth exercise, team sports and swimming. Families can exercise together in the Y-Box every afternoon from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., enjoying such movement activities as sport-wall target stations, dance dance revolution and expresso game bikes. Sports teams and swim teams allow kids to learn sports skills while competing as a team. Kids can also learn racquetball, handball and karate.
Registration
