Calories in Vegetable Chips

Vegetable chips are a good choice if you're craving a crunchy snack. They provide about a half serving of vegetables per ounce, according to USA Today. Remember, however, that fresh vegetables are a better source of vitamins.

Identification

Vegetable chips are a light, crunchy alternative to regular potato chips. They may be made from red pepper, poblano pepper, beets, sweet potatoes, carrot, green bean, squash and any of four varieties of seaweed -- wakame, kombu, hiziki or nori. They come prepackaged or you can bake them yourself.

Nutrition

One ounce of vegetable chips contains around 120 calories, according to the Fat Secret website. The 1-oz. serving contains 6 of fat, 1 g of which is saturated. The serving contains 18 g of carbohydrates, 2 g of which is fiber, 1 g of protein and 55 mg of sodium.

Comparison

Vegetable chips have fewer calories and less fat than regular, plain potato chips. Plain potato chips contain 155 calories per ounce. A serving contains 10.6 g of fat, 3.1 g of which are saturated. They're also higher in sodium, with 149 mg per ounce.
