Bacardi makes a variety of rums in different proofs, which is an indication of the percentage of alcohol. Rum is a liquor that is distilled from sugar cane.

Calories in Alcohol

Alcohol has seven calories per 1 g of alcohol. The higher rum's percentage of alcohol, the more calories it will have. The percentage of alcohol in a liquor is expressed as proof. For example, 100 proof liquor has 50 percent alcohol, while 80 proof liquor has 40 percent alcohol.

80 Proof Rum

Bacardi Superior, Bacardi Solera and Bacardi Gold are all 80-proof rums, which means that they are 40 percent alcohol. One ounce of 80-proof distilled alcohol has 64 calories.

Mixers

Rum becomes more caloric when you add mixers, which are often high in sugar. In order to minimize the calories in the rum, consider drinking it with diet soda or on the rocks, instead of with a sugary mixer.
