Weight Watchers is a diet plan that has been successful for many of those who have struggled to lose excess weight. The Weight Watchers system relies on assigning each person a points value based on age, weight and sex, and then using those points to determine how much you can eat each day. Weight Watchers participants are urged to stay under their daily points allowance to be successful and lose the weight by eating in a healthy, low-calorie way.

Step 1

Determine your starting points number. Sex is the first number that you'll tally. For a man, you'll automatically start with 8 points .A woman can automatically start with 2 points. if you are a woman who is nursing and trying to lose pregnancy weight, you'll automatically being with 12 points.

Step 2

Add points based on your age. If you are between the ages of 17 and 26, add 4 points to your original tally from Step 1. If you are between 27 and 37, add 3 points to your original tally. If you're between 38 and 47 add 2 points, and if you are between 48 and 57 and 1 point. If you're over 57, do not add any points to your Step 1 tallies.

Step 3

Adjust your points according to your weight. Take the number that you've gotten from adding Step 1 to Step 2, and add points for your weight. Take the first two numbers of your weight, and add them to your tally. For example, if you are a woman, who is 39 years old and 147 lbs., your equation for points will read 2 + 2 + 14 = 18 points.

Step 4

Add points for your height. If you're under 5 feet tall, do not add any points. If you are between 5 feet and 5 feet 9 inches, add 1 point. If you're taller than 5 feet 9 inches, add 2 points.

Step 5

Consider your activity level. You can add point as you become more active. If you leave a more sedentary lifestyle, don't add any points. If you are mostly sedentary, but spend sometime walking or on your feet, add 2 points. If you do a moderate degree of physical activity per day, add 4 points, and if you're largely active, add 6 points.

Tips and Warnings

  • Don't be tempted to try and fix your numbers so you get a higher daily points allowance. You're trying to lose weight, and the only person you'll be cheating is yourself. If you are following the Weight Watchers Flex Points system, you get 30 extra points per week to "spend" however you want. Some choose to save them for the weekend, while others spread them out throughout the week.
