You may enjoy a beer on a hot day, after a casual baseball game or at other times. Don't forget to add the calories from your beer into your overall count for the day if you are watching your waistline --- even if you drink it after being active.

Identification

If you drink an 8-oz. regular beer you will be consuming about 100 calories, according to the College Drinking Prevention website. Choosing a light beer instead adds 74 calories per 8-oz. beer to your count and saves about 26 calories over the regular beer choice.

Considerations

Sip three regular 8-oz. beers and you've added 300 calories to your day. That's about 15 percent of overall calories if you follow a 2,000-calorie diet. Three light beers add 222 to your count, or 11 percent of daily calories based on a 2,000-calorie diet.

Considerations

If you are diabetic, be careful about your beer consumption following activity. Exercising and then drinking alcohol, like having a few beers after skiing or playing a soccer game, raises your risk for having a low-blood glucose reaction, say Richard S. Beaser and Amy P. Campbell, authors of "The Joslin Guide to Diabetes."
