Panera Bread makes nine salads, two of which were chosen by ShopSmart Magazine, as among some of the healthiest salads at chain restaurants. Since Panera's salads are made to order, you can substitute the ingredients in each salad to your liking.
Healthy Salads
Leave out the salad dressing in the BBQ chopped chicken salad to go from 500 calories to 360 calories for the healthiest choice, according to SmartShop Magazine. SmartShop also considers the fuji apple chicken salad, at 370 calories without dressing, as among the healthiest salads at major restaurant chains.
Cobb and Harvest
With ingredients like gorgonzola cheese, bacon, and diced egg, the chopped chicken cobb salad has a total of 500 calories, with 320 of them coming from fat. The orchard harvest chicken salad contains pears, cherries, and pecans for a total of 550 calories.
Asian Sesame Chicken
Choosing the Asian sesame chicken salad will provide 400 calories with only 180 from fat. This salad offers the lightest dressing option at a mere 90 calories. Leave out the crispy wonton strips and you'll save 140 calories.
Caesar
Created by Caesar Cardini in 1924, the Panera's caesar salad is very basic, with only four ingredients, and has about 390 calories. Adding chicken will increase the calories to 510, but will provide a good source of your daily protein.
Classic and Greek
Panera's classic cafe salad has 170 calories and five vegetables, with only 90 calories coming from the dressing. The greek salad has 380 calories, but 300 of the total calories comes from fat, mostly because of the high fat dressing. Ask for the dressing on the side, and add only half to your salad to cut the calories.
