Liquor is alcohol that has been distilled instead of fermented. Whiskey, rum, vodka and gin are all liquors. The calories in liquor vary depending on how much alcohol the liquor contains.

Alcohol Calories

Alcohol contains seven calories per 1 g. Alcohol content affects liquor's calorie count. Proof measures how much alcohol is in the liquor. If a liquor is 80 proof, then it is 40 percent alcohol. If it is 100 proof, it is 80 percent alcohol.

Calories in Liquor

Eighty proof liquor contains 64 calories per 1 oz. serving, according to the USDA. Ninety proof liquor contains 73 calories per 1 oz. serving, and one hundred proof liquor contains 82 calories per 1 oz. serving. For every 5 percent increase in alcohol content, 1 oz. of liquor contains approximately nine more calories.

Carbohydrates In Liquor

After distillation, liquor contains water and alcohol. There are no carbohydrates in plain liquor. Watch for sugar additions to liquors in order to ensure you're not consuming more calories than you expect.
