How to Speed Up the Metabolism Naturally

The biochemical process in which your body converts the food you consume into usable energy is called metabolism. Fats, carbohydrates and proteins are brought together with oxygen to let loose the energy your body needs to function normally. Possessing a high metabolism is vital to losing weight. By using all the methods below, you can effectively speed up your metabolism and lose some weight in the process.

Step 1

Drink two to three cups of green tea every day to help boost your metabolism. Green tea contains polyphenols called catechins which may oxidize fat and speed up your metabolism, helping you lose extra pounds fast.

Step 2

Add spices to your main dishes three times a week or more. Spices, including chili peppers and black pepper, contain potent substances which can boost your metabolism for a few hours. Try to eat East Indian dishes, since these kinds of foods are mostly spice based.

Step 3

Avoid skipping meals. Your body automatically conserves calories when you don't eat for a long period of time. To prevent you from starving, your body slows down your metabolism. To stop this from occurring, try to eat six small meals every day. This will prevent you from feeling hungry and help maintain your energy levels.

Step 4

Stay cool by taking cold showers and drinking eight glasses of ice water every day. Your body burns calories and increases your metabolic rate when it tries to keep warm. You can also leave your windows open during the cold months. This will allow the cold wind to enter your room allowing you to shiver. Close the windows when you can no longer handle the cold.

Step 5

Exercise every day for one hour to help boost your metabolism. Getting enough exercises will increase lean muscle mass while reducing body fat. When you increase lean muscle mass, your metabolism will increase naturally and help you lose weight. Muscle tissues use more calories than adipose (fat) tissues, because its metabolic rate is higher. Exercises such as swimming, cycling, running and aerobics will help you enhance your metabolism.
