How to Remove Skin Tags From Around the Eyes

Skin tags are harmless tumors that pose no threat to your health or safety. Some people get one or two skin tags, while others get dozens in areas like the neck, underarms and around the eyes.

Home remedies involving acids that dry out the skin tags aren't an option for those around the eyes because they may cause eye injury or blindness. Cutting off skin tags is a quick solution, but Cleveland Clinic recommends only doctors perform this procedure to prevent injury and infection.

Step 1

Make an appointment to see your doctor or dermatologist. Talk about the best method for the location and size of your skin tags. Doctors cut off most skin tags, but they can be frozen and burned off as well.

Step 2

Prepare for your appointment by keeping your eyes clean and free of cosmetics and skin care products. At the appointment, your doctor will likely apply a topical numbing solution, then remove the skin tag in a manner of minutes.

Step 3

Keep light pressure over the area if you experience minor bleeding. Keep the area clean and dry and provide a topical antibiotic ointment to prevent infection.

Step 4

Follow your doctor's additional aftercare directions. Most people need no aftercare, however, larger skin tags might require one or more stitches or follow-up visits.

Step 5

Talk to your doctor about a diabetes screening. MedlinePlus points out that people with diabetes are more likely to get skin tags.
