Doing drills in volleyball is an ideal way to improve your skill level and help you perform better in games. You can practice drills by yourself that will help you improve your form. You can do these drills either at home or a practice facility such as a gym. Work on the basics of the game including serving, blocking and volleying and you can also work on your conditioning.

Wall Toss Drill

Step 1

Toss the volleyball off the wall so that it will rebound toward you at a point where you can reach it when you are at the top of your leap.

Step 2

Jump as high as you can so that you can reach the ball as it rebounds off the wall. Raise your dominant hand so that you are in a striking position.

Step 3

Come down with your hand and spike the ball so that it hits the wall with a downward flight. This will allow you to practice the motion needed to end a point with a kill shot.

Serving

Step 1

Place two rubber circular mats down at the corners of the back of the court.

Step 2

Go to the serving position and practice serving accuracy. Toss the ball high in the air and then serve the ball into the circle on the right side of the court. Similarly toss the ball high in the air and serve the ball into the circle on the left.

Step 3

Hit five balls towards each circular mat. Record your accuracy. Take a two-minute break and repeat the drill.

Sprint Shuttle Drill

Step 1

Set up three cones in the gym. Set one up 20 feet from the starting line, another 40 feet from the starting line and then the third 60 feet from the starting line.

Step 2

Sprint to the first cone and then return to the starting line. Go to the second and sprint back and finally run to the third cone and sprint back.

Step 3

Run the sprint shuttle drill again after taking a two-minute break. This drill will help you improve aggressiveness and quickness.
