With is a bitter taste and brilliant red color, cranberry juice comes from the cranberry, one of only three fruits native to North America, according to the Cranberry Institute. Most of its calories come from carbohydrates in the form of sugar.
Caloric Information
One 8-oz. cup of unsweetened cranberry juice provides 116 calories, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Nutrient Database. The same sized glass of cranberry juice cocktail provides 137 calories.
Nutrition
A single cup of unsweetened cranberry juice provides 195 mg potassium. Other nutrients in cranberry juice include vitamins A and C, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.
Considerations
Not all cranberry juice is created equal. Opt for pure cranberry juice or cranberry juice blends over cocktail; not only does cocktail typically contain extra calories in the form of added sugar, but cranberry juice accounts for less than a third of the liquid in the drink, says Robert Ronzio, Ph.D., author of "The Encyclopedia of Nutrition and Good Health."
