Huffy Sports produces lines of portable and in-ground basketball backboard systems. Permanent basketball goals are designed for installation in a concrete footing. Portable systems can be easily wheeled about and have a hollow base that can be filled with sand or water for ballast.
Setting up a portable Huffy Sports basketball goal is relatively easy to do. Kits containing the components and hardware are available through most sporting goods outlets. The assembly and setup can be done on a driveway or patio using a few hand tools.
Step 1
Turn the hollow base over so the axle tabs are facing up. Position the double wheels between the tabs and insert the axles into each of the hubs. Put a retainer clip in the groove at the end of each axle and tap the clips into place using a light hammer. Put the small plastic covers on the end of each axle. Turn the base upright.
Step 2
Stand the backboard on edge. Position the angle iron backboard brackets in a "V" configuration at the backside of the backboard. Insert the provided bolts into the pre-drilled holes in the face of the backboard. Put washers and nuts on the bolts and tighten the connections with a box wrench.
Step 3
Align the end of the hoop bracket with the holes in the face of the backboard. Insert the provided bolts through the face of the hoop bracket, through the backboard and into the pre-drilled holes at the base of the backboard brackets. Complete the attachment with the provided lock washers and nuts.
Step 4
Identify the upper section of pole by the pre-drilled holes that align with pre-drilled holes in the backboard. Attach the section of pole using the provided bolts, lock washers and nuts. Identify the lower section of pole by the tabs that snap into the base. Position the pole over the hole in the base and press down to snap it in place.
Step 5
Attach the lower stabilizer arms between the base and the lower pole using the provided bolts and nuts. Insert the middle section of pole in the top of the lower section. Press down to snap it in place.
Step 6
Have an assistant help align the end of upper pole with the top of the middle section. Make sure the hoop is facing opposite from the wheels on the base. Press the upper pole into the middle section.
Step 7
Attach the net to the hoop. Fill the base with sand or fresh water. Grip the upper section of the pole, tilt the backboard onto the wheels and position the goal for play.
