How to Keep Hair From Growing

Unwanted hairs have a habit of popping up in unexpected areas. You may find a stray hair on your neck or face and extra hairs on your arms or abdomen. Unwanted hair is a common skin problem which can be caused by numerous factors including heredity, disease, medications or stress. There are several ways in which you can help eliminate and slow down the growth of unwanted hairs.

Step 1

Apply a depilatory cream to the areas where you want hair to stop growing. This method won't permanently remove hair, but it can remove it for a long time. These creams work by dissolving the keratin in the hair shafts below your skin. You can purchase depilatory creams at your nearest drug stores. Talk to the pharmacist to find out which depilatory cream would work best for you.

Step 2

Wax the affected areas. Waxing your skin can help slow down the speed of hair regrowth. Wax removal kits can be purchased at your local drugstore. You can do this at home or have it professionally done at your local beauty salon.

Step 3

Use an epilator to eliminate unwanted hair growth. This device works by pulling unwanted hair out by the roots. Epilators come in rechargeable battery or corded designs. Using an epilator can be painful for some people, so it is advisable to do this after waxing to remove hair regrowth.

Step 4

Go to a beauty salon or spa to get electrolysis done. Electrolysis works by bombarding your hair follicles with electronic beams, ripping your hair roots from underneath your hair line. This procedure can permanently stop hair from re-growing but it can take several sessions before results are seen.

Step 5

Talk to a dermatologist regarding laser hair removal. The laser produces highly concentrated light beams which are absorbed by the pigment in your hair follicles, damaging the surrounding follicles. Most treatments require about five to seven sessions for permanent hair removal. The procedure is usually repeated at monthly intervals.
