A spring scale is the traditional weight scale that you'll find in most bathrooms across America. They use the force of pressure on the springs to measure a person's weight. Using one to measure your weight is easy, and it varies depending on whether you have a traditional dial scale, or a newer style LED display scale. Do your best to get the most accurate results on your scale so that you can use it to gauge weight loss success to spur you forward to keep losing even more weight.
Step 1
Place your scale on a hard, flat surface. It helps if you weigh yourself at the same time each day to get a better reading, and to only weigh yourself once per day, as your weight may fluctuate throughout the day.
Step 2
Remove all unnecessary and heavy clothing. For instance, heavy shoes, jackets and sweaters will all change the results to make it seem you are heavier. It's best to take it off before weight so you get a more accurate result.
Step 3
Step on the scale, distributing your weight evenly. This will help you to get an accurate reading, but it also helps you get a reading faster. Stand still.
Step 4
Wait until the dial stops turning, if you're using a dial spring scale, or until the LED numbers stop counting, if you're using an LED display scale. They might fluctuate for a moment, trying to get the most accurate reading.
Step 5
Read the display to get the number for your weight. On a dial scale, you'll read the number that the small arrow is pointing to, but with an LED display scale, you'll just read the number that is displayed on the screen.
Step 6
Weigh yourself two more times using the same method. You may get different numbers each time. Take the average of the numbers for the most accurate reading.
