The Calories in a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Bagel

A bacon, egg and cheese bagel is a filling breakfast, but it's not the best choice if you're trying to lose weight. It's high in fat, sodium and cholesterol.

Nutrition

A bacon, egg and cheese bagel sandwich contains about 510 calories, according to the CalorieKing website. It contains 17 g of fat, 6 g of which is saturated, along with 195 mg of cholesterol, 1,340 mg of sodium, 66 g of carbohydrates, 23 g of protein and 150 mg of calcium.

Health

A bacon, egg and cheese bagel is a good source of protein and calcium. Protein is important for growth and development, and getting enough calcium may reduce the risk of osteoporosis. However, this breakfast sandwich has an unhealthy downside. Saturated fat and dietary cholesterol can raise blood cholesterol, warns the American Heart Association, and too much sodium can raise your blood pressure.

Tips

Skip the bacon on your bagel to cut out fat and sodium, or try turkey bacon, which has fewer calories and less fat and sodium. Choose a whole-wheat bagel to get more nutrients and fiber. Make your bagel with egg whites to limit calories, fat and cholesterol.
