Stomach fat, or visceral fat, is a type of fat found deep within your body, and it is different than subcutaneous fat, which is found just under your skin. Belly fat can be dangerous, because it accumulates and encases the internal organs in your abdominal area. High belly fat is also linked to high levels of cholesterol and heart disease. Getting rid of belly fat is not easy, which is why you need to use various methods.
Step 1
Drink 8 to 10 glasses of healthy fluids every day. If you want to lose belly fat, you need to consume a lot of water, especially when you sweat or work out. Your body must have enough water to function optimally, and water helps you feel full, so you eat less. When you are dehydrated, your liver, which helps in converting fat into energy, will not be able to function properly. Avoid drinking sugary drinks such as soda, canned fruit juices and chocolate drinks.
Step 2
Eat foods that help burn fat. Foods that are rich in protein and low in sugar, carbohydrates, cholesterol and saturated fats are desirable for losing the fat around your belly. Examples of these types of foods include whole grains, tofu, leafy green vegetables and unsweetened natural fruits. Avoid refined carbohydrates, which contain white flour or sugar. Also include foods containing healthy fatty acids, like olive oil, nuts and seeds.
Step 3
Eat five to six smaller meals daily. Binging can occur when you consume the standard three meals a day, which can lead to belly fat. Eating smaller portions can prevent overeating. In addition, it can help speed up metabolism, since your body needs energy to digest the eaten food. Start by eating the heaviest meals at the start of the day, then taper off toward your last meal.
Step 4
Do cardiovascular exercise for one hour every day. These types of exercises can help you burn calories by boosting your metabolism and providing your body with more oxygen. Fat-burning cardiovascular exercises include swimming, tennis, jogging, cycling and running.
