Unfortunately, getting fat is an easy and fast process. That's why you have to work so hard every day to keep a slim physique and optimum health. We live in a society that constantly sets us up for failure; we are shown pictures of rail-thin models as a standard of beauty, then offered french fries and doughnuts as a standard of cuisine. If you're not careful, you'll find that getting fat is fast and easy. Don't make these everyday mistakes that can result in a quick expansion of your waistline.
Getting Fat
Step 1
Limit your daily physical activity. The National Academies' Institute of Medicine recommends that you get 30 to 60 minutes of exercise per day, but to get fat fast, ignore this recommendation and instead stay inside and indulge in TV shows and extra sleep. Not moving your body is a sure way to store up all of those calories that aren't burned and instead become heart-stopping triglycerides.
Step 2
Take advantage of as many modern conveniences as possible. While you may love your car, remember to take advantage of the escalator, elevator and moving walkways. These conveniences are easy ways to get somewhere fast without having to expend energy. Modern conveniences such as fast food restaurants and drive-through windows should also be utilized to get fat.
Step 3
Make poor nutrition choices by not taking an active role in your own health. Instead of reading nutrition information and making sure that calories are nutrient-dense, take a passive role and eat whatever you want. Choose processed foods that are laden with trans fats, sodium and sugar, guaranteed to pack on pounds. Ignore fruits, vegetables and other natural sources of food.
Step 4
Load your food up with condiments to pile on extra calories. Mayonnaise and thick salad dressings can pack on extra calories onto an even well-meaning dish such as a salad. Always choose the full-calorie version of your favorite condiments.
Step 5
Become complacent with your life and the way things are. Instead of worrying that your pants no longer fit, purchase new, larger pants. Instead of thinking about the way a large fast-food meal doesn't quite fill you up, try the extra-large version instead. A recent Forbes magazine article made an interesting observation about Americans; all corporations and businesses can do for a culture that gets fatter is to get fat along with it with larger offerings to fulfill ever-expanding waistlines and appetites.
Step 6
Find strength in numbers. Luckily, Forbes magazine reported that according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 64 percent of Americans over the age of 20 is obese. Use this fact to comfort yourself as you begin to gain weight. Everyone else is doing it, so you can too. This motivation can help you gain weight faster than ever.
Gaining Weight
Step 1
Talk to your doctor about a medical necessity for gaining weight. Some people, who are in certain sports and need weight class, or those who are severely underweight, will need to embark on a medically guided weight gain program to gain weight in a healthy way, so that they don't harm their bodies by simply eating fatty foods and becoming sedentary.
Step 2
Add 500 extra calories to your day to start. Instead of consuming mindless fatty calories, make your calories count. Add calories in the form of protein, to gain muscle, or those with higher fiber content, so that your food is not only helping you gain weight, but also helping you stay healthy.
Step 3
Check the Nutritional Facts on food packaging. The University of Michigan Health System recommends choosing foods with high caloric content when looking to gain weight.
Step 4
Avoid saturated fats. Although they'll help you gain weight quickly, they can do major damage to your arteries, which can in turn lead to heart disease and stroke. Stick to healthy fats, such as the healthy omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and nuts.
Step 5
Exercise regularly. Exercise can help stoke your appetite so that you want to eat more, helping you to consume more calories throughout the day. Light weight lifting and cardiovascular activity can also protect your heart to keep you healthy.
