Introduced in 1907 by the Hershey Chocolate Company, Hershey's Kisses are believed to have gotten their name from the "kissing" sound when the chocolate dropped from a machine that formed the candy's shape. Initially, each Hershey's Kiss was wrapped by hand until 1921 when a new device called a channel wrapper lifted and wrapped each Kiss, adding the trademarked "KISSES" plume. Today, these machines can wrap an estimated 1,300 kisses per minute.
