Eating carbs and sweets, such as cookies and muffins, may sound like a wonderful way to lose weight. The idea behind the Smart Cookie or Smart for Life Cookie Diet is that you will consume fewer calories by replacing high-calorie meals with cookies. Before you start any weight loss program, consult with your doctor.

Features

The Smart for Life program is available through nationwide clinics or through an at-home plan. When you join the program through a Smart for Life Center, you can purchase the diet cookies directly from the location. Other center services include in-person consultations, weekly weigh-ins and nutritional educations programs. When you enroll in the at-home program, you are still expected to participate in weekly support calls with a weight loss advisor and arrange for your Smart for Life cookies to be delivered to your home.

Types

You'll eat an average of 800 to 1,200 calories per day while following the Smart for Life Cookie Diet. Each day, you are allowed a total of six Smart for Life cookies. For dinner, you can eat a lean protein, such as chicken or fish, and five servings of vegetables. Instead of cookies, you can also substitute meals with other meal replacement products from the company. Selections include soups, muffins and shakes.

Identification

Flavors of the cookies include blueberry, oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip. Each cookie contains approximately 105 calories and 2.5 g of fat. According to EveryDiet.org, each cookie contains a blend of fiber, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. These ingredients are meant to suppress the appetite while ensuring that your nutritional needs are met.

Benefits

When you follow the Smart for Life Cookie Diet, you are eating a very low number of calories, so you will likely lose weight quickly. By eating cookies instead of meals, your calorie intake and portion sizes are being controlled.

Warning

Experts like James Hill, director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado, advise against using cookies for weight control. This type of fad diet can help you lose weight, but since you are not likely to stick to this type of eating plan long-term, the weight is likely to creep back on.
