You don't have to go to a gym or a park to play basketball. You can put up on your own portable basketball goal at your home. One of the key advantages of a portable basketball setup is you can take it down when weather won't allow you to play or you can move it to another location.

Step 1

Put the base where you want to position your basketball goal. This will often be on the side of the driveway. In order to keep your base from shifting positions, fill it with 80 lbs. of sand so it won't get moved by strong winds or other weather conditions.

Step 2

Place the outer arm of the basket frame in a preset slot on top of the base. This arm is also called the boom. Make sure the front edge of the outer arm rests on the padded pole at the front of the base.

Step 3

Attach the backboard to the basket frame and tighten the main screws to lock the backboard in place. Attach the rim to the backboard. This is done by using four screws that go into predrilled holes on the backboard.

Step 4

Adjust the main handle on the basketball frame to adjust the basket to the correct height. If you have younger players, you will want the height to be 7 or 8 feet. Older players will want the basket adjusted to a standard 10 feet.

Step 5

Place foam padding on the base of the basket to protect any player who makes contact with the portable basketball goal. Collisions and hard fouls occur regularly in basketball and you have to plan for them to avoid serious injuries. You can attach the tape with glue or double-sided tape.

Things You'll Need
