Nurturing Under Eye Skin Care for Sensitive Skin

Taking care of the skin around and under your eyes helps ward off the signs of aging. According to an article in "Cosmopolitan," dermatologist Audrey Kunin says the skin around your eyes is the thinnest and most prone to damage, so moisturizing is key. If your skin is sensitive, it can be difficult to find products that do not cause irritation. Look for creams or lotions with soothing ingredients that are safe for sensitive skin, and use them in combination with other gentle beauty products to nourish and nurture your delicate skin.

Step 1

Use a creamy cleanser to wash your face in the morning. Look for products that promise to be nonirritating and that contain no soaps or fragrances. Wet your face and hands with tepid water, and smooth the cleanser all over your face and closed eyes. Splash it away, and dry off with a soft towel.

Step 2

Apply an eye cream that contains soothing botanicals. This will moisturize your skin, replenish lost hydration and cut down on any redness or irritation. Use the tip of your finger to dot the cream under and around your eyes and blend it in gently. Let it absorb for five minutes.

Step 3

Conceal your dark circles or eye imperfections with a hypoallergenic or allergy-tested concealer, says "Cosmopolitan." These will disguise pigmentation issues without irritating your skin. Use your fingers or a soft makeup brush to dot the concealer under your eyes and blend it in lightly. Repeat until you achieve the desired coverage.

Step 4

Remove your eye makeup at the end of the day. According to ophthalmologist Robert Mirsky, this can significantly cut down on eye irritation. Douse a cotton ball in baby oil, press it to your eyes, and smooth the makeup away -- but do not rub too harshly. When you finish, use the creamy cleanser to wash your face and eyes and get rid of any residue from the oil.

Step 5

Dry off and apply a nighttime eye cream that contains hyaluronic acid. Dermatologist Heidi Waldorf says this ingredient helps seal moisture into your skin to keep it supple and hydrated. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, so it takes hydration from the air and deposits it into your skin, making it ideal to nourish the dry, stressed out areas under your eyes. Smooth on a small amount before going to bed.
