Dandruff is a common scalp condition sometimes accompanied with itching or flaking skin. Dandruff also can be seen in the form of flakes of dead skin present in the hair or on the shoulder. Dandruff can sometimes be a result of dry or oily skin. It can also be caused by a buildup of dead skin from inadequate shampooing. Several natural remedies can be used to help combat these conditions and improve the health of your scalp.

Step 1

Eat a diet rich in zinc, vitamin B, and polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. These vitamins and minerals are responsible for proper hair and scalp nourishment and can provide the nutrients the scalp needs to remedy dandruff.

Step 2

Wash hair thoroughly with mild shampoo to remove any dandruff, dead skin or oil that may be present on the scalp.

Step 3

Apply tea tree oil to scalp after you have thoroughly washed the head.

Step 4

Massage tea tree oil into the hair and scalp, saturating both areas.

Step 5

Wait 15 minutes, then wash out oil. Allow your hair to air dry to prevent drying out of the scalp.

Tips and Warnings

  • Continuing a healthful diet and good grooming habits will help you maintain a dandruff-free scalp.
  • The Mayo Clinic notes that tea tree oil may cause an allergic reaction in some individuals. Consult your doctor to ensure tea tree oil is safe for you.
