If you have decided that it is time to lose weight for health reasons or just to look and feel better, there are hundreds of approaches and fad diets promising success. An easy and effective way to lose weight is to replace high fat foods from from your diet with versions that are lower in fat and calories. Almost every food group has low-fat alternatives you can use to slowly reduce the number of calories in your diet that should ultimately result in the weight you would like to lose.
Fish And Shellfish
Good choices for low-fat foods include any foods that contain 5 grams or less per serving. For instance, 3 oz. of sea bass contain 2.2 grams of fat. Other good choices include 3 oz. of striped bass (2 grams), 3 ounces of flounder (1.3 grams), 3 oz. of halibut (2.5 grams), 3 oz. of Mahi mahi (.6grams) and 3 oz. of swordfish (4.4 grams).
Grains, Pastas and Cereals
Grains and pastas are often the first to go when people wish to lose fat, but that doesn't have to be the case. Many pastas and grains without calorie-laden sauces are low-fat. For instance, 1/2 cup of white hominy contains only .8 grams of fat. Other good choices include 1/2 cup cooked white rice (trace), 3/4 cup oatmeal (1.8 g)rams, 1 cup cooked macaroni (.9 grams) and 1 cup of cooked spaghetti (.9 grams).
Vegetables
Some of the lowest fat food are from the family of vegetables. For instance, 1/2 cup of steamed broccoli contains only 0.3 grams of fat. Other good choices are one raw carrot (0.1g), one ear of corn (1 gram), 1/2 cup eggplant (0.1 gram), 1/2 cup mushrooms (0.4 gram), 1/2 cup onions (0.1 gram) and 1/2 cup spinach.
