The NordicTrack core line of products all simulate the motions of cross-country skiing, a sport considered among the most rigorous of cardiovascular exercises. The Classic Pro Skier burns calories much like other cross-country simulators.
Baseline Calories
According to health resource website Nutristrategy, an average 1-hour workout on a ski machine that includes the NordicTrack Classic Pro Skier burns 493 calories off a 155 lb. person. Because heavier people burn more calories, a 205 lb. person would burn 651 calories in the same workout. A 130 lb. person would burn only 413.
Intensity
The NordicTrack Classic Pro Skier allows you to increase or decrease three resistance settings. You can adjust the flywheel tension to make moving the slats more difficult. You can increase or decrease the incline of your workout. You can also adjust the resistance of leg and arm modules independently to adjust how hard your arms and legs work. Increased intensity will increase your caloric burn.
Metabolism
Cross-country skiing is also a resistance workout. It will increase your muscle content with each workout. According to Harvard-based health writer Walter Willett, a body with more muscle has a faster metabolism. The more you use your NordicTrack Classic Pro Skier, the more calories you will burn the next time you use it.
