A workout on a ski machine puts your body through the same motions as a cross-country skiing workout. Cross-country skiing is considered one of the most rigorous forms of cardiovascular exercise available.
Basic Calorie Burn
According to health resource website Nutristrategy, a 155 lb. person performing a one-hour session on a ski machine will burn 493 calories. Because heavier people burn more calories in all activities, a 205 lb. person would burn 651 calories in the same workout.
Vigor
One of the chief variants in how many calories you burn during any workout is how vigorously you exercise. On a ski machine, you can increase the vigorousness by adjusting the angle of your climb or the resistance on your machine.
Metabolism
Your metabolism determines how fast your body naturally burns calories. Somebody with a fast metabolism burns calories faster in all activities than somebody with a slow metabolism. According to health author Mehmet Oz, a muscular body has a faster metabolism than one with less muscle. Ski machines build muscle, meaning you burn progressively more calories with each subsequent workout.
