How to Use Alli

The weight-loss drug Alli is the over-the-counter version of the prescription drug Orlistat. One of the key differences is that Alli (60 mg) is half the strength of Orlistat (120 mg). Alli differs from most popular weight-loss drugs in that it works on the digestive system, as opposed to the nervous system. Alli prevents about 1/4 of the fat you consume from being absorbed.

Step 1

Purchase an Alli starter pack at a drugstore or pharmacy, or online. You might prefer to buy it at a pharmacy so if you have any questions or concerns, you can discuss them with a pharmacist.

Step 2

Another useful alternative resource to utilize Alli is to register online with the myalliplan, a free, customized online diet plan. The plan offers customized menus, which are based on your answers to a 10-part questionnaire and on your Body Mass Index, and individualized support.

Step 3

Plan out a diet that keeps fat to no more than 30 percent total of your daily calories, and no more than 30 percent of each meal.

Step 4

Take a 60 mg. Alli capsule during breakfast on your first day of being on the drug, up to no later than one hour after eating.

Step 5

Continue taking Alli for the other two meals of the day, just as you did in Step 4.

Step 6

Take a multivitamin every day, unless your physician advises otherwise.
