Restylane is an FDA-approved clear biodegradable gel made from hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in your body. Injected with a very fine needle into the skin, restylane can be used in conjunction with, or as an alternative to, Botox and collagen to fill in tiny lines and wrinkles, and subtly contour and plump lips. Restylane is available in different particle sizes, which are used for different applications.
Augmentation
Restylane may be used for lip augmentation -- to enhance the size and shape of the lips in younger patients and correct thinning of the lips due to age. Short-term bruising and swelling are common side effects, but applying ice packs 10 to 15 minutes after the injections can prevent this. Restylane can also augment the checks, giving the appearance of higher cheekbones; it can also enhance the tip and sides of your chin, as well.
Fine Lines
Restylane can smooth superficial lines around the mouth, eyes and forehead. It can minimize crow's feet, worry, smile, frown and smoker's lines.
Scars
Restylane can treat small facial and acne scars. After the restylane is injected deep into subcutis, the area is massaged to avoid lumps. Restylane may not be a permanent solution, although it does last twice as long as collagen. You'll need additional Restylane injections in 6 to 9 months.
