Cherries can be dried with the pits removed. Dried cherries come in sweetened and unsweetened varieties and can be eaten as a snack directly out of the bag, as well as used as a sweet addition to salads, entrees and other dishes.

The USDA Commodity Food Fact Sheet states that a 1/4 cup of dried sweetened cherries contains 112 calories and no fat. One serving contains 27 g of carbohydrates, 19 of which are sugar.

Dried cherries are high in potassium and vitamin A. Potassium helps keep your heart, brain, kidneys and muscles healthy. Vitamin A stimulates the production of white blood cells and regulates cell growth.
Uses
Sprinkle dried cherries on breakfast cereal or in oatmeal for sweetness and a boost of vitamins. Add to breads and rice dishes or mix with nuts, chocolate pieces, raisins and granola to make trail mix.
