The Library of Congress credits Swanson with developing the first TV, or frozen, dinner in 1953. Today, there are more than 40 varieties of heat-and-eat meals available.
Pot Pies
The pot pie is a staple of frozen foods. Swanson makes three -- beef, chicken and turkey. Turkey has 390 calories per serving, while the other two have 400.
Classic Dinners
Swanson dinners attempt to represent the home-cooked American meal. Meatloaf, a traditional American dish, has 270 calories per serving as does salisbury steak. Roast carved turkey, which was the original Swanson dinner, has 250 calories.
Hungry Man
The Hungry-Man dinner is Swanson's variety of large dinners aimed at a man's appetite. With the larger portion comes more calories. The Hungry Man meatloaf is more than twice the size as the classic dinner and has 680 calories. A Hungry Man XXL package of meatloaf ups the ante, packing 24 oz. -- more than three times the size of the classic -- and 800 calories.
