It's important to give your players drills that can help improve conditioning and skill level when playing basketball. You can find many skill-building and conditioning drills online when you are preparing to play. It's important for all players to work on ball handling, shooting and conditioning when preparing for the upcoming basketball season.

Shooting Drills

You can perform this drill from Coach's Clipboard on your own before you start practicing with your team. Move to the right baseline on the basketball court, about 18 feet away from the rim. Take five shots from that spot before moving to the right wing, about 18 feet away. Take five more shots. Do the same from the top of the key, the left wing and the left baseline. Take a two-minute break and repeat the drill as you reverse your direction. Write down the results of your shooting practice and take note of your progress on a daily basis.

Two-Ball Drill

Improve your ball handling with the two-ball drill that you can find at Breakthrough Basketball. In this drill, start off at the far baseline with one basketball in each hand. Dribble the ball in your dominant hand. When you hear that ball hit the ground dribble the other ball. Start walking toward midcourt as your dribble both balls. When you reach midcourt, start jogging as you head toward the near baseline. Turn around and jog back to midcourt while dribbling and then try to maintain your dribbling while sprinting back to the original starting point. When you are confident and familiar with this drill, you can set up chairs or cones every five feet and dribble in a serpentine fashion around the chairs with both basketballs. This will develop dribbling expertise.

Deep 6 Drill

The Deep 6 drill is a simple but tough conditioning drill at Degerstrom, which features more than 1,000 online basketball drills. Line up all your players on the baseline and get your stopwatch out. On your whistle, everyone takes off. Players must run to the far baseline and back three times -- six lengths of the court -- and do it in 35 seconds or less. If they can't beat that time, they must run it again.

Loose Ball Drill

To teach players that they must hustle at all times -- especially on the defensive end -- you can do the loose ball drill at the Basketball Plays and Drills website. In this drill, the players form two lines and the coach gets between them and rolls the ball in the halfcourt. The two players go after the ball as quickly as they can. The player who controls the ball goes on the attack and tries to score. The other player must play defense. After the shot is taken, the two players get back on the ends of their respective lines and the next two players get their turn at the drill.
